

Spotify is working with Facebook to enable premium users to play music directly from the app on both iOS and Android devices and can also share their music to news feed on the app. In addition to all these offerings, Spotify said it’s opening up its audio ads marketplace, the Spotify Audience Network (SPAN), to independent podcasters using Anchor, but will be available to a selected Anchor creators beginning with 50 creators on May 1. To further aid independent creators, Spotify has said it will be giving podcasters free subscription for two years and that from the year 2023, the audio streaming service provider will place a 5% transaction fee for podcast creators.

However, users will not be able to subscribe within the app but will need to go on the browser of Spotify or anchor to subscribe. Meanwhile, content creators who put their content behind a paywall will be required to wait for a while as Spotify plans to add more podcasters to the list. With this development, users will have to subscribe to their favourite podcasters thus creating a revenue source for creators on the platform.Īll that the user would do is to go on the podcaster’s page, a padlock icon will be seen in place of a play button and the user will get an option to unlock the content behind a paywall.
